Abstract
A resected case of hemangioendothelioma of the liver is reported. The patient was 4 month-old female, pointed out to have an enlarged liver and was admitted for further examination. On admission, the liver was enlarged and the liver edge was palpated at 4 fingerbreadth below the costal margin. From the examinations such as ultrasonography including color doppler (CDUS), CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the angiography. we thought it to be a hemangioendothelioma of the liver and performed left lobectomy. The histopathological diagnosis was the hemangioendothelioma of the liver. Hepatic angiography shows much diagnostic information for the hemangioendothelioma. Recently, CDUS and MRI are reported to be useful as diagnostic method and this case is also analysed in their findings. The hemangioendothelioma of the liver for infants are relatively rare. There exist two therapeutic methods for this disease, namely conservative and surgical treatments. We selected surgical intervention because the tumor formed a solitary large mass and the malignant cases are known.
