Abstract
The effect of intraoperative bupivacaine block on the postoperative pain and activity was evaluated in 51 children undergoing elective unilateral inguinal herniorrhapy. These children were divided into 2 groups ; 28 undergoing intraoperative bupivacaine block, 23 undergoing intraoperative local injection of physiologic saline solution. Age distribution and operative time were compatible in these 2 groups. The postoperative pain was evaluated by scoring of their activities at 3 times after each operation. Regarding the postoperative pain, there was no significant difference between 2 groups, It is concluded that intraoperative bupivacaine block does not reduce the postoperative pain in inguinal herniorrhaphy.
