We studied the characteristics of bronchoscopy and selected the optimal method of treating cases of aspiration of various foreign bodies (excluding nuts) in children. The 5 cases were as follows: Case 1: A 23-month-old girl with shrimp aspiration. Case 2: A 10-month-old boy with spring aspiration. Case 3: A 68-month-old boy with bead aspiration. Case 4: A 9-year-old girl with tooth aspiration. Case 5: A 7-year-old boy with tooth aspiration. The foreign bodies in cases 1, 2, and 3 were removed by flexible bronchoscopy, while the foreign body in case 4 was removed by rigid bronchoscopy. The foreign body, which was a tooth, in case 5 was removed by both flexible and rigid bronchoscopy in combination with the use of a Fogarty catheter. It is important that we understand the characteristics of flexible and rigid bronchoscopy and use the most appropriate method to remove foreign bodies.
