Abstract

Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma (RCL), which is considered a congenital disease, grows slowly in the abdominal cavity, but it can grow rapidly once it is infected. We report the case of an 8-year-old boy who was referred to our institution with abdominal pain and fever. CT and MRI showed a cystic lesion of 11.2 × 6.3 × 5.8-cm size in the abdominal cavity. Administration of antibiotics and TJ-28 made the mass significantly smaller. Laparoscopy-assisted subtotal resection of the cystic lesion was performed, and on the basis of histopathological findings, the diagnosis was RCL with infection. Reduction of the size of the infected RCL by treatment with antibiotics and TJ-28 leads to a less invasive surgery.
