Objective: To investigate the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the Self Evaluation of Breathing Questionnaire (SEBQ) in outpatients with musculoskeletal disorders.
Methods: 102 outpatients with musculoskeletal disorders initially completed the Japanese version of the SEBQ and the Japanese version of The MOS 8-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-8), and then completed the Japanese version of the SEBQ again one week later to examine test-retest reliability. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated from the response results to examine internal consistency, and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was calculated for test-retest reliability. Discriminative validity was examined by correlating the results of the Japanese version of the SEBQ with the subscales of the SF-8 using Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
Results: Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.86, ICC was 0.75, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed no correlation for all subscales (r=−0.12 to 0.03).
Conclusion: The Japanese version of the SEBQ showed good reliability and validity in outpatients with musculoskeletal disorders.
