Abstract
The transbronchial oxycel-cotton-embolizing method was performed in 29 cases of hemoptysis, including 23 massive and emergency cases. Among these patients, there were 7 cases in which the thrombin infusion method was not effective to control hemoptysis. The efficacy rate of hemostasis by our method was 89.7%. In emergency cases the rate was 91.3%. A good clinical course and prognosis was seen in 82.8% of cases. In all cases in which the transbronchial thrombin infusion method was not effective our method was remarkably effective. The occasional complications of this therapy were fever elevation, obstructive pneumonia and hyperventilation. These were treated by antibiotics or sedation and there was no case that developed serious condition. It is considered that the transbronchial oxycel-cotton-embolizing method of hemostasis is more useful than any other method and safe to control massive hemoptysis.
