A total of 21 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax were treated from June 1993. For three cases with massive air leakage with poor pulmonary reserve and/or advanced age, a new approach of bronchial embolization combined with pleurodesis was attempted. The previously inserted thoracic tube was able to be removed 4.7 days following treatment and all three were cured. We conclude this new therapy is simple, less invasive and effective in cares of pneumothorax with massive air leakage, in which there in no indication for operation.
