Effect of clarithromycin on symptoms and cough receptor sensitivity were studied in 15 patients with sino-bronchial syndrome. Cough receptor sensitivity was measured by a capsaicin provocation test. After 4 weeks of treatment with oral clarithromycin (400mg/day), cough frequency and volume of sputum had significantly decreased but cough receptor sensitivity was unchanged. These findings suggest that productive cough in patients with sino-bronchial syndrome is not accompanied with heightened cough receptor sensitivity.
