Abstract
To quantify of tree shape, a terrestrial laser scanning survey was performed on Cycas revoluta Thunb. designated as natural monument. Scanning at 18 points was carried out on the ground around C. revoluta and on the second floor of adjacent building. Plan and elevation view of C. revoluta were created with these data after coordinate transformation. There was a difference with 50 cm on horizontal trunk position between by man made survey and by 3D data. In the elevation view drawn with 3D data, there was a missing area in the poor visibility location such as base of trunk. Comparing two sets of scanning data, height difference between individual highest point of C. revoluta were within 2.1 cm for three trees. These indicated the shape observation was successfully conducted.
