Abstract
We examined growth characteristics of three evergreen Fagaceae species in Tadasu-No-Mori forest. Lithocarpus glaber showed intermediate characteristics of Castanopsis spp. and Quercus gilva. The initial growth rate of C. spp. was relatively high along with remarkably high mortality rate on the medium size. In the future, an increase in the dominance level of C. spp. is not expected. The mortality rates of Q. gilva trees were low under a condition of intense competition. Therefore, that unless large-scale disturbances occur in the future and the progression of vegetation succession at this site continues, the dominance of Q. gilva may be high in the long term.
