Determination of the chloroplast DNA haplotypes of Primula cuneifolia Ledeb. var. cuneifolia from Niseikausyuppeyama and Hakodake in Hokkaido, and clarification of the distribution boundary based on those haplotypes.

Abstract

To clarify the distribution boundary of the previously reported chloroplast DNA haplotypes, which are from Primula cuneifolia Ledeb. var. cuneifolia on Taisetsuzan system and Rishiri-Shiretoko mountain range, we sequenced the cpDNA regions of trn L-trn F and atp B-rbc L, which are from the species on Niseikausyuppeyama in the north of Taisetsuzan system and Hakodake in Kitami mountains. As the result, these sequences in Niseikausyuppeyama were consistent with those in Taisetsuzan system. Similarly, the above relationship was found between Hakodake and Rishiri-Shiretoko mountain range. These results indicate that there are the distribution boundary based on the cpDNA haplotypes between Taisetsuzan system and Hakodake.
