Genetic variation of the chloroplast genome of Convallaria majalis L. var. manshurica Kom. in Hokkaido and regional differences in their distribution of genetic variation.

Abstract

We investigated genetic variation in the psbA - trnH, trnL intron, trnL 3' exon - trnF, atpB - rbcL, and atpI - atpH regions of the chloroplast genome of Convallaria majalis var. manshurica growing in Hokkaido. Three base substitutions and one insertion/deletion mutation were detected. The combination of these mutations resulted in five haplotypes in Hokkaido. However, there were differences in the distribution of these haplotypes among regions. These results suggest that the seed movement of C. majalis var. manshurica in Hokkaido should be carefully considered.
