In recent years, due to the effects of rising temperatures caused by global warming, cold weather herbaceous plants conventionally used for vegetation works in Hokkaido have been extremely difficult to grow, depending on the time of sowing. This study fundamentally investigated the applicability of warm weather herbaceous plants to vegetation works in Hokkaido. Specifically, the study involved conducting constant pressure box shear tests at low vertical stress on soil specimens with well-developed plant root systems subjected to an artificial freezing and thawing history to clarify the impact of the freezing and thawing history on the ground reinforcing effect of warm weather herbaceous plants. The test result confirmed that the ground reinforcing effect of warm weather herbaceous plants was reduced by the freezing and thawing history, but that the reinforcing effect itself was maintained.
