Abstract

In 50 healthy adults (25 males, 25 female) aged 22-80y, we measured the plasma phylloquinone (PK), menaquinones (MKs), urinary γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla), plasma prothrombin and protein C levels. The levels of PK and MK-4 to MK-9 in healthy adult plasma were 1.78±0.32, 1.12±0.20, 0.13±0.03, 0.14±0.03, 1.67±0.25, 0.09±0.03, 0.10±0.04ng/ml (Mean±SE), respectively. PK, MKs and γ-Gla levels increased with age, but the sex effect observed in this study was not found. Plasma prothrombin and protein C levels were found to be constant.
Furthermore, PK, MK-4 and 7 levels showed a significant positive correlation with urinary γ-Gla levels.
