The Theatricality of “Katari” in Noh

Abstract

“Katari”, which is one of the most important elements in noh drama, stands in the relationship between the stage-player and the audience. The present paper examines the theatrical aspects or effects of “katari” of the main-character in 24 noh plays and of the side-character in 6 plays.
