Abstract
A survey on parasitism of Otodectes cynotis (O. cynotis) was performed in 1,151 household dogs in accordance with their ages, keeping condition, orgins and breeds. O. cynotis was detected in 40 out of 1,151 (3.5%) dogs examined. The dogs aged under 1 year showed a higher parasitic rate (4.2%) than that of dogs aged over 1 year (2.1%). The parasitic rate of indoor keeping-dogs (4.2%) was higher than that of outdoor keeping-dogs (1.4%). The high parasitic rate (4.3%) was found in dogs derived from breeders or pet shops. Pug (19.4%), Yorkshire terrier (12.7%) and Miniature schnauzer (11.1%) showed a high parasitic rate.
