Abstract

The Kanagawa Prefecture Natural Environment Conservation Center rescues injured, sick and orphaned wildanimals. In Kanagawa, three Yokohama city zoos and one Kawasaki city zoo and Veterinarian Societies in cooperate with our center to rescue wildlife. The number of wildanimals which we rescue in the Prefecture reaches about 2,000 every year. This number extends to approximately 15% of wildlife rescue cases reported in Japan. Wildlife rescue activities in the future will not be only to rescue each animal, but also to contribute to saving the natural environment and the biological diversity. The environmental education program to citizens, accumulation and improvement of the wildlife rescue techniques, utilize environment monitoring data for conservation medicine. These activities are required even more for the future societies.
