Abstract
Kanji Learning is one of the difficult subjects for Japanese Learners with Non-Kanji Background. Particularly, many learners experience difficulty in early intermediate level where volume of Kanji vocabulary has increased and becomes more complicated. However, there are learners who show improvement from beginner to intermediate level. We conducted a survey on the Strategies Used for Kanji Learning among 170 Malaysian students of Preparatory Education Course to Japan. From the result, it is shown that 80% of the students were using the Compensation Strategies. Based on this result, we suggest the improvement of the Kanji classes.
