Abstract
Active learning was incorporated into a Japanese language teacher training class through a flipped classroom approach. Pre-class assignments via an LMS facilitated students' comprehension of key concepts, while in-class group activities deepened their understanding. Participants engaged in group projects on major themes and delivered presentations. End-of-term surveys indicated that students gained sufficient knowledge and a deeper understanding of the material, though some found the pre-class workload demanding. Future directions include assessing time spent on pre-class assignments, clearly articulating the objectives of active learning, and enhancing opportunities for students to share goals and motivations, thereby fostering collaborative learning.
