Abstract
This textbook was created for Japanese and international students to interact with each other inside and outside the classroom. The textbook facilitates activities and discussions with exchange partners (for beginner to advanced level). It can be used not only in Japanese but also in Japanese and English or any other language combined, and in both face-to-face and online exchanges. This textbook seeks to accomplish the following five objectives: 1. To guide students through discussions from familiar themes to social issues, 2. To allow students to choose between face-to-face and online activities, 3. To facilitate students' interactions using basic language, multiple languages, and a variety of resources, 4. To provide examples and tips for proactive interaction, and 5. To promote learning through reflection. This textbook can be used for conversation partner programs, multicultural collaborative learning courses, international exchange circle activities, collaborations between multiple classes, collaborative online international learning (COIL), short-term Japanese language programs, local Japanese classes, youth exchanges, etc.
