Abstract
This paper presents study of finite element model for simulating restraining mechanism of piles installed in landslide that is triggered by groundwater. Finite element model was validated by successfully simulating measured deformation of piles in an actual landslide due to rise of groundwater. It was also found that a good agreement between the measured and simulated bending moment can be obtained, by taking average of modulus of deformation of earth measured in the range defined by a distance, 1/β, above and below the slip surface.
