Train operation are suspended when needed to ensure safety depending on volume of rainfall measured by rain gauges. Nevertheless, in some cases disaster caused by heavy rainfall are known to occur before such measurements require suspension of operations. It is important to reduce occurrence of such disasters for the sake of railway safety. This study focuses upon cross-sectional mountain stream embankment collapse. Methods of evaluating risk of such collapse with high accuracy are considered using runoff analysis of rainfall in catchment area. As a result, the validity of that method was confirmed.
