Abstract
When stratum (one or two material layers) slips along the water film surface, a thin layer of disturbed clay is formed on the water film surface by rubbing action. These disturbed clay had been called “Land slide clay” But landslide clay is not the cause of landslide occurrences but the result of slips. It is necessary for preventing landslide to understand the shear properties of thin disturbed clay.
The shearing characteristic of disturbed clay on the slide face is changed every moment by sliping conditions. The shearing resistance under unconsolidation-undrain conditions changes slowly into shearing resistance under consolidation-undrain conditions.
On the one side, the thickness of disturbed clay on the sliding face is a thin layer (from a layer 1-10 mm thick), and these soil samples are collected at the test pits. Accordingly, it is necessary to reconsider the method of soil test which has been adopted.
This paper is to report that the results of shearing characterestics of disturbed clay have been obtained by new experimental attempt and apparatus, and these results can be applied to the preventing landslide.
