Abstract
The dynamic elasto-plastic FEM is applied to analyse the behavior of slopes during earthquakes. The FE calculations on a simple homogeneous slope show that this method can evaluate plastic or residual sliding displacement of slope. The Newmark's method which uses the average acceleration inside the sliding body specified by a limit equilibrium method, predicts almost the same sliding displacement of the slope as the FEM proposed in this study.
