Abstract

Kurita's Super Reading System (SRS) is a method seeking improvement of intellectual function and a change in the paradigm of human information processing, Students in this course engage in activities for the improvement of the following six systems: 1) motor system, 2) autonomic nervous system, 3) emotional system, 4) imagery & sensory system, 5) language system, and 6) metabobic & subconscious system. In this study, we analyzed the physical complaints of the students. The subjects included 72 students attending Kurita's SRS course. Data here are shown in averages. Skill in unraveling a maze within 20 seconds increased to 3.3 times the baseline skill initially assessed. The number of simple arithmetical additions within one minute increased to 1.45 times the initial number. Reading speed within one minute increased to 24 times the initial one. The sum of subjective scores of well being for six systems (on a scale of 0 to 10) increased from 34.2 to 43.8. Average subjective scores (on a scale of 0 to 10) for physical complaints decreased as follows: shoulder stiffness from 2.4 to 1.6, eye fatifgue from 3.0 to 2.1, neck siffness from 2.7 to 1.6, headache from 1.2 to 0.7, abdominal pain from 1.2 to 0.7, lumbago from 1.3 to 0.6. All these decreases were statistically significant by the paired t-test. These results suggest that the training of speed reading increases the well being of body and mind and improves physical complaints. A series of special training exercises for the acceleration of intellectual function and activation of six systems of body and mind is a novel and highly effective methodology for the attainment of holistic health.
