Abstract
Kabunizi is usually observed standing on the horizon opposite to the sun at sunset. It is merely a phenomenon caused by the scattering of beams of light in air when they are projected into, through the openings between cumulus clouds on the western horizon at sunset. Seamen often regard it as an omen of coming storms. The author observed it with special interest since 1920.
As far as the author observed, the phenomenon appears in July, August and September only, It is not certain that it can be regarded as an omen of storm The phenomenon was rather short in duration and usually disappears after half an hour or so.
