Abstract
Littwin and Normand already calculated the energy releasable from the overturning of the vertical air column of super-adiabatic lapse-rate.
The author generalizes the above problem and treats here the energy system in which the stably stratified air column lies on the lower layer of super-adiabatic lapse-rate.
In this case the interchange of the masses occurs in the form of vertical mixing and the numerical integration has been applied to the evaluation of mass-integral. The result shows that the consumption of energy due to the subsidence of the upper stable layer acts to diminish the gain of energy due to the overturning of superadiabatic layer and the total net gain of energy becomes small.
