For the study of increasing temperature due to the development of urban areas, the character of the available data should be thoroughly investigated with respect to its homogeneity, variability of the elements in consideration, and the effect of regional climatic change. The city growth is numerically expressed by the increase of population. The fourteen stations are selected in Japan excluding Nagoya, Kyoto, Kobe, and Hiroshima mainly because of dishomogeneity of their temperature records due to a location change of the stations. The increase of temperature is related to the square root of the population better than to their absolute number.
