Magnetic Properties of Rapidly Quenched (Fe_1-xCo_x)₁₇Sm₂ Alloys

Abstract

The formation of metastable TbCu_7-type disordered compounds and their magnetic properties for rapidly quenched (Fe_1-xCo_x)₁₇Sm₂ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and thermomagnetization analysis. The disordered compound is formed with single phase in the range 0.5 ≤ x ≤ 1.0 at the disk velocity of 42 m/s. The disordered phase is magnetically harder than the ordered phase of Th₂Zn₁₇ structure.
