Abstract
The structures and magnetic properties of Fe/Al multilayered thin films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering have been investigated. The crystal structures and magnetic properties of the films were found to depend on the thickness ratio of Fe and Al (=dFe/dAl). The lattice constant increases with decreasing dFe/dAl, because solid solutions of Fe and Al are formed in the interface layer. For the thickness ratio below 3. the lattice constant increases discontinuously and the saturation magnetization of iron layer decreases rapidly with decreasing dFe/dAl. In the region of the thickness ratio below 3, ordered structures such as Fe3Al seems to be formed resulting in the decrease of Hc and the increase of the resistivity with decreasing dFe/dAl in the film. In the condition of dFe=18Å and dAl=6Å, the magnetic properties of Hc=1 Oe, Ms=1200 emu/cc were obtained.
