Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the leakage field from an auxiliary layer to a recording layer in an exchange-coupled multilayered magnetooptical medium. In order to estimate the leakage field, test media, in which an auxiliary layer was formed on a recording layer through a non-magnetic layer, were prepared. The leakage field was determined as the difference in the threshold external fields between two different initial magnetization directions in the recording test. The experimental result was in good agreement with the numerical calculation, in which a single domain nucleation was assumed. The leakage field was found to be proportional to the change in magnetization at the heated spot. It was also found that a leakage field of about 200 Oe was generated from the auxiliary layer with a magnetization change of 150 emu/cc.
