Abstract
Skew gears, such as hypoid gears, are generally used in automobiles for stabilization of the chassis. However, such gears have some disadvantages, for example vibration, noise and need of lubrication, etc., on account of the direct contacts of the teeth.
This report presents a method for producing a magnetic skew gear that uses a permanent magnet, and for improving the performance characteristics.
A prototype magnetic skew gear, which consisted of a pinion and gear in a state of non-contact, slipped at a low pinion speed of 350 rpm. This problem was solved by using an eddy current device, which is sometimes used for highspeed starting of magnetic super gears.8)
As a result, a new magnetic skew gear was obtained, whose pinion and gear do not slip at a practical pinion speed of 1500 rpm.
