Abstract
This paper proposes a rectangular-type linear dc motor (LDM) that consists of only six components, including the parts of the position detector. Cubic permanent magnets were found to be suitable for the LDM, and their magnetization characteristics were larger than those of cylindrical permanent magnets. Acetal resin slide bearings were used for the support mechanism. The driving characteristics of the manufactured LDM were as follows:
1. The maximum static thrust of the LDM was 1.59 newtons.
2. The linearity of the capcitance-type position detector was ±1.5%.
3. When the LDM was controlled by using the PD control circuit, the positioning error and settling time were ±4% and 30 ms, respectively.
4. The maximum response frequency of the LDM was 9 Hz.
