Invar Effects in Amorphous Alloys

Abstract

The Invar effects in Fe-base amorphous alloys are reviewed. After a brief discussion of the magnetic properties of Fe-base amorphous alloys, the Invar effects such as very small thermal expansion and anomalous magnetic properties are summarized. The thermal, electrical and elastic properties of these alloys are also presented. It is concluded that the magnetic, thermal and electrical properties of Fe-base amorphous alloys are very similar to those of FeNi crystalline Invar alloys except for the elastic properties. Finally, the Invar characteristics of Fe-base amorphous alloys are discussed from the practical point of view.
