Abstract

Entropy can be understood as a measure of the number of possible microscopic configuration that are consistent with a given macroscopic state of the system. Boltzmann factor forms the basis of Arrhenius' equation and is not only useful in chemical reaction theory and predicting the lifespans of rubber and plastic products but also utilized in setting initial conditions in molecular dynamics simulations. This paper explains entropy in a way that can be understood with the knowledge equivalent to high school mathematics.
