Abstract
Objective: In the carotid artery stenting (CAS), we performed the same maneuver using the same type of stent and evaluated the long-term results.
Methods: Between October 2007 and July 2012, a single surgeon performed CAS with distal balloon protection using the same type of stent (Precise 10 mm×4 cm) for 27 lesions of carotid artery stenosis. For 24 of these lesions, we could accomplish long-term follow-up of more than 2 years after CAS.
Results: In one patient, a large cerebral infarction occurred during stenting, resulting in neurological deficits. No other postoperative strokes were evident during the follow-up. Asymptomatic restenosis of one lesion occurred 2 years after the first operation, and retreatment was performed.
Conclusion: Although the number of cases was limited, we could achieve standard long-term results of CAS using the same maneuver and stent type.
