The solubility of W in UC was determined in the lower temperature range of 1, 6731, 973 K from the lattice parameters of the solid solution (U, W)C. The solubility increased with an increase in temperature from 0.79a/o at 1, 673 K to 2.06a/o at 1, 973 K. The heat of solution of W in UC was estimated to be 80±10 kJ/mol. The W content in the carbide was also measured by an electron probe microanalyzer. The results were consistent with those obtained by the X-ray diffraction measurements and revealed that fission products in carbide fuels might be quantitatively determined by the microanalysis.
