Abstract
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, a dermatology-specific examination room was established in the polyclinic. The presence of dermatologists on standby was the first time in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the Olympic Games, English, French, and Spanish were widely used. In the Paralympic Games, Arabic and French were frequently used. The language barrier was a big concern, but many volunteers managed to communicate by using multilingual translator, and they were able to conduct smooth medical examinations, which were greatly appreciated by the athletes. During the Olympic period, there were consultations related to skin care such as acne, pigment disorders, wrinkles. Additionally, there were also consultations related to skin tumors, checking for skin cancers, and vitiligo. World -class athletes showed significant interest in skin care as part of their health management. During the Paralympic period, there were traumatic skin problems, including leg ulcers, skin troubles at amputation sites, nail problems, and pressure ulcers. Due to financial constraints, some athletes have found it difficult to consult dermatologists in their home countries. Polyclinic allowed these athletes to receive necessary skin care during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We would like to continue to share and consolidate the knowledge and ideas of dermatologists, expand the network, so that we can contribute to the health and performance improvement of athletes.
