Abstract
Standardization activities in Japan is markedly behind those by international organizations such as ISO and in advanced countries ; USA, UK, and West Germany, etc. Standardization in its broader sense is promoted by the Science and Technology Agency, JICST, Ministry of Internatitional Trade and Industry, Ministry of Education, Japan Documentation Society and other organizations in respective fields of interest. The Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) system established only those relating to microform technology, and other national standards in information/documentation fields remain to be started. This report touches upon various asects of standardization in reference to those played by foreign counterparts on international scene.
