Information retrieval system for database of environmental radiation monitoring

Abstract

In order to provide the information on environmental radiation monitoring to the Science and Technology Agency of Japan and 47 local hygiene laboratories, a system of database for environmental radiation monitoring has been developed at Japan Chemical Analysis Center. This database which are relational database have been stored apporoximately 840,000 records on results of environmental radiation monitoring since 1957. These data are composed of spatial radiation dose, concentration of radionuclides such as ⁹⁰Sr, ¹³⁷Cs and ⁴⁰K in environmental samples such as precipitation, soil, total diet, agricultural products, sea water, and marine products. This paper provides an outline of the subsystem on this database and concentrates on the information retrieval system by interactive design system for which an unskilled person on computer can easily search the database.
