Abstract
The Library which the author is belonging to has long operated two types library consortia as the member; one is library consortium specialized in music (it has long history of more than 30 years and covered 37 libraries nationwide) and another is library consortium being composed of five colleges and universities, each of which is specialized in its own subject such as economics, liberal arts, communications, contemporary laws, music, arts, and is located in the same region westward of Tokyo (it has a history of 6 years). The author first describes the idea of the foundation, the objective, the activities, the evaluation and the future challenges. Then he compares the both consortiums in terms of resource sharing, problems found in the sharing, making of the union catalogs. Lastly he gives some consideration on basic items of consortium including how the member libraries are involved in and collaborate in consortium, funds for operating a consortium and leadership.
