The effective use of an intellectual property system is indispensable to promote R&D and corporate business activities. The current Japan’s intellectual property system consists of the patent law, copyright law, and other laws concerned. Each of those laws is constructed and designed under each different legal framework, so that it is important to use each of the laws the most properly or in the most appropriate way. This series analyze the current status of those laws in terms of current use situation, legal structure, and the issues, and report them, which are expected to help a corporate promote its R&D and business activities. The first article of the series covers current status and issues of the Japanese Patent Law which forms the core of Japan’s whole intellectual property system.
