In introducing the latest (2006) edition of the Directory, I explain the process by which the Directory was completed, as well as the Directory's features and functions. The functions can be viewed as either reference tools or management tools. I demonstrate the usefulness of the Directory as a reference tool by explaining how its indexes are structured and indicating the correct way to access library data. Moreover, I reveal the usefulness of the Directory as a management tool by explaining the usefulness of statistical data for negotiation with, and persuasion of, parent organizations.
