To grasp the condition of intellectual property of this firm and competition companies precisely is a first step for IP management. And now, patent portfolio analysis by text mining is paid attention. By text mining software, it becomes possible to analyze contents of a massive patent specification documents in detail. Analyzing and visualizing methods are sophisticating, for example, mapping based on words, network analysis, grouping documents based on words in documents, and so on. From now on, text mining doesn't stay in a mere tool, it will be an infrastructure that supports the IP strategy of companies and research institutes. And staffs of a planning section and an intellectual property section will be asked for new skills.
