Abstract
Next-generation library catalogs have been developed, focusing on user-oriented features such as visually enriched displays, relevancy ranked results, faceted navigations, search-term recommendations, and other social features. Nowadays, the term “discovery interfaces” is gradually emerging to describe these new products by their broader integration of library resources beyond printed collections; including electric resources, institutional repositories, and digitalized materials. In April 2010, Kyushu University Library introduced a test version of the discovery interface named Cute.Catalog, using eXtensible Catalog (XC), an open source software. In this article, firstly our decision making to implement the best discovery interface for us will be introduced. Secondly, the features of XC software suite and its developing procedure in our library will be described, showing how we solved problems we have faced. At last, future possibilities will be discussed.
