Abstract

Sharing research data has recently become one of the main issues on scholarly communication. Some topics are often discussed, such as the vision of the new way of scientific research, the making of worldwide standardized rule about data sharing, and the making national policies of data management. However, specific actions on research data management have gradually begun to be reported in these days, even in U.S. or European institutions. In this article, we reported the results of the questionnaire survey on the current status of research data management in the Japanese universities and research institutions. The questionnaires were sent to 494 universities and research institutions, in which we asked several topics, such as perceptions on open research data, whether the management plan or some guidelines about research data are made or not, and the condition of institutions about open research data. As the result, we revealed that both of regulation (rulemaking) of data management plan and building infrastructures for preserving research data have not been improved yet. We also revealed that only the guidelines to prevent research misconduct are released in many institutions.
