In recent years, many workplaces have been created that match the way employees work against a backdrop of increased creativity and productivity. With the aim of understanding the state of such diverse workplaces, this study will develop a new classification frame and identify basic trends through the analysis and categorization of photographs from the quarterly magazine “NEW OFFICE. Using grouping experiments and multidimensional scaling methods based on the collected photographs, we found two axes: “Expectation of contact with others” and “Degree of focus on work. In addition, we employed three axes, including “degree of enclosure,” which was set as an axis indicating the physical characteristics of the space. For these three axes, a baseline was created as a basis for adding new element space images, and the accuracy of the additional classifications was verified. We proposed a classification frame and a specific classification method for organizing elemental spaces, which are likely to become increasingly diverse in the future. Finally, we identified basic trends using a total of 90 element space images (over a three-year period) that were categorized through the process described above.
