Abstract
The superannuated infrastructures or public structures are required to be used as long as possible with minimum maintenance cost. It is also required to maintain safety. A long term structural monitoring by optical fiber sensors is a new approach to solve this problem. The key point of a structural monitoring is to understand the real behavior and present state of structures and to estimate the behavior in near future based on monitoring data. An optical fiber sensor will present interesting and useful information in this field. In this paper, a new approach of maintenance of structures is proposed and several examples of long term monitoring are presented for the existing bridge, tunnel and the landslide.
