Abstract
The design guideline of linear underground structures for earthquake surface fault is important in order to reduce earthquake damages. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the influence to underground structures due to reverse fault movements, in order to clarify the faulting mechanism. A series of model experiments using image processing system are being made for this purpose. Surface deposit in which afault propagates is modeled as a set of aluminum rods. As well as deformation of model structures and aluminum rods are measured, normal and shear stressesa cting on the basement are measured. It is shown that a large moment works at the tip of the fault, whichd rives the fault propagation. These results are for model experiments, they wills erve as basic findings for influence of underground structures.
