Abstract
It is possible to show shapes of buildings at small scale using GIS (Geographic Information System). But shapes may be distorted at very small scale. This problem is known as a vector to raster transformation problem. This paper deals with the problem from an information point of view. First of all, a model concerning theoretical model to display building information is discussed. Then Information of a building on display and Entropy of a group of buildings are defined. Using data of buildings of Hanshin-Awaji-Daishinsai, the case study is done for two kinds of display; computer display data laser plotter. The result shows that shape of buildings should not be displayed at a scale less than 1/30,000.
